900 entries for Rugby Photographer of the Year with Canterbury

A record-breaking 900 entries have been received from across the world for the 2023 Rugby Photographer of the Year with Canterbury.

In the third year of the Rugby Photographer of the Year contest, which culminates in a year-long exhibition at the World Rugby Museum, Twickenham, over 900 entries were received across its six categories, including entrants from across Europe, Australasia, Africa and North and South America.

The judging process is now underway, involving 12 leading figures from the worlds of photography, rugby, marketing, editorial and creative. A shortlist will be announced w/c 28th August, 2023, with both the category winners and overall winner announced at a reception at the World Rugby Museum on Wednesday 6th September.

“Judging the Rugby Photograph of the Year competition was a fascinating challenge,” explains Simon Rowe, VP Global Sports Marketing, Canterbury/Pentland Brands Limited. “All the images were worthy recipients of an award with each image telling a beautiful story of rugby, its values and its ability to inspire in multifaceted ways, making the task of selection a tribute to the game's own complexity.”

Every shortlisted image will appear in the year-long exhibition and also feature in the next print edition of Rugby Journal, available to pre-order here.

The image that wins the overall prize will receive £1,000 cash plus a full set of Canterbury teamwear for a team of their choice.

Shortlists will be announced via Rugby Journal social medial channels: Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin and via the newsletter, which you can sign-up for here.
